The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is an eye-catching white coloured ultraportable laptop with only the Yoga logo placed on the top-left corner and the usual Lenovo logo on the bottom-right making it a minimalist design. The body is made of carbon fibre for the lid and a magnesium-aluminium alloy on the bottom.

This was subjected to nine military-grade tests to ensure durability. Even a 76cm drop would be sustained. It is constructed from high-strength carbon fibre. Fear of working in beaches due to dust and extreme temperatures can be put to rest now.

Lifting the lid, you are greeted with the 13.3-inch 2560×1600 IPS display with thin bezels on the top and both sides, while the bottom bezel being the thickest. One of the noticeable parts on the lid is the minor bump on the centre which is likely placed for an easier lift for the lid and the placement of the webcam.

Placed on the left side are two USB-C ports and an LED indicator. While on the right-side is another USB-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and the power button.

Underneath the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon are more product labels, three anti-slip rubber stands, the ventilation, and two speakers for the Harman Kardon.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon Impressions

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is built for productivity especially for those who are looking for lightweight laptops. It is powered by the Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor with their Iri Xe graphics. Additionally, it has 16GB LPDDR4X RAMs set at 4266MHz frequency. It is a very silent performer but tends to get warm rather quickly. One of the biggest contributions to this would be the ventilation being placed underneath the laptop.

The display is a 13.3-inch display which provides great viewing angles and the colours are certainly vibrant. The 300 nits display is rather dim but is not that bothersome. With its 2560 x 1600 resolution hitting just the right spot for the size as a 4K screen would be a little too much for its size.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i only has three USB-C ports which would seem insufficient for some users. This has a Thunderbolt 4 port though and two USB 3.2 Gen Type-C port and would need to get a USB hub or dongle to provide additional ports. It would be great though if Lenovo added it as an additional accessory as they have several USB-C ports available in the market.

The keyboard is a backlit chiclet keyboard without a Numpad.  It’s tactile and has a short travel distance with decently size keys that are easy to press.

On the audio aspect, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon’s speakers performed as expected. A bit soft even at maximum volume with a lack of bass. Despite being Harman Kardon speakers, there is nothing much to be expected as these are built-in speakers.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon Performance

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon that we have is an engineering sample and performance may change one the retail units are out so there take these performance results with a bit of salt.

CrystalDiskMark 7.0.0

Starting with CrystalDiskMark, we see the Peak Performance of the m.2 NVMe drive of Samsung’s PM981 1TB SSD. This is more than necessary speeds for regular basic tasks and productivity work. The storage drive provides a sufficient boot-up time and minimal load times for anything necessary.

Cinebench R20

One thing to note is that we are looking at Intel’s processor which have low frequency but works best for power efficiency. Comparing the Intel i7-11657G7 to the previous generation i7-10657G7, we see a slight increase in performance.

On another note, we tested it again the Ryzen 5 4600H and Ryzen 7 4800H in single-core performance and Intel seems to be staying close behind the Ryzen 7 4800H and even beating the Ryzen 5 4600H by a hairline.

PCMark10

With the PCMark benchmark, we see the potential of the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon. It is a versatile laptop and is quite obvious that the Digital Content Creation would be the lowest as it does not run with a discrete graphics card but still managed to score decently.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon Final Thoughts

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is a well-rounded productivity laptop with a military-grade build that provides a dependable performance. One of the main features it has is the Thunderbolt 4 capability which gives up to 40GBps transfer speeds, a power delivery of 100W. This was initially announced on CES 2020 and we are glad to have it on our current lineup with Lenovo.

Despite being lightweight, it sure packs great hardware. Again, the Legion Yoga Slim 7i we got is just an engineering unit but performed close to the Ryzen counterparts which are retail units. We are excited to see how much better the ones that would come out on shelves would perform. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i is priced at ₱74,995 which would hit the right spots if it would include a USB-C hub in its regular package.
