Seagate One Touch SSD 1TB Review : Portable and Lightweight

Seagate officially announced their One Touch SSD portable drives nearing the end of 2019 as an affordable alternative for those with an on-the-go lifestyle where most content creators or multimedia professionals are able to carry their data with them.

The Seagate One Touch SSD has rated speeds of up to 400MB/s ensuring quick transfers and backups over the USB 3.0 interface. Available in both 500GB and 1TB variants with a 3-year warranty.

Packaging

The one that was sent over was a white One Touch SSD 1TB under the part number STJE1000402. Inside the box, you would find the drive and a 20cm USB 3.0 cable.

Additionally, the purchase includes a one-year Mylio Create plan and a two-month Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan.

The free 1-year Mylio Create Plan is valued at around $50 (roughly 2,500 pesos) and includes automatic multi-storage syncing of up to 50,000 photos.

The Adobe CC plan can be registered until January of the following year and is  around $19.98

Design

The One Touch SSD has a sleek body that measures 75 mm x 55.5 x 10 mm with a weight of 48 grams excluding the cable. Roughly half a can of coca-cola.

Seagate has a USB 3.0 Type-B connector on the right-hand side of the One Touch SSD which we honestly think would be better off as a type-c connector for better speeds.

Underneath is an ABS plastic enclosure that has all the necessary information and usual regulatory markings.

Performance

CrystalDiskMark

The Seagate One Touch SSD 1TB drive is rated at about 400MB/s and does well above what it is supposed speeds.

AS SSD Benchmark

The same results are seen on the AS SSD as it does above its rated speeds of 400MB/s.

We also did synthetic copy benchmarks and here are the results of the copy.

Conclusion

Aesthetically, the Seagate One Touch SSD is without a doubt one of the most pleasing ones we’ve seen and should appeal to those that want something faster than a hard drive. Another notable offer that Seagate gives its users is peace of mind thanks to their 3-year warranty.

It would have been more preferable to have had a USB Type-C. It feels as though the One Touch SSD is positioned to target mainstream users who are just upgrading from spinning drives. The price is still under ₱10,000 and may be affordable to some. It was definitely not intended to compete against high-performance models but would be the best alternative to flash drives and thanks to its compact design, can be carried around anywhere.
