Realme announces their realme buds Air 2 in the Philippines as the successor to the realme Buds air from 2019. During the beginning of the quarantine, we saw the growth of the TWS segment, and realme was one of the manufacturers who contributed during Q3Y20.

Design and Construction

The realme Buds Air 2 has chosen to bring out the element of its brand on launch day. It does have a certain resemblance to the Apple Airpods with the charging case included. The case has three elements – the branding, an LED light, and a button for connectivity.

The earbuds come in two colours, white and black. We were able to get a pair of black earbuds from realme. Nothing majorly distinguishable with this pair in terms of design but one good thing about them are that it is exceptionally lightweight ensuring comfortability with long-time use. In terms of make, these feel rather plasticky. Despite that, we are looking at a TWS with ANC priced for the mass. The package makes a great deal for its price.

Connectivity

The realme Buds Air 2 has Bluetooth 5.2 support which ensures the device stays connected to the earbuds within 10 meters from one another. Bluetooth codec support SBC and AAC which are standard to TWS earbuds. AAC gives the opportunity for iPhone users to be able to stream high-quality music.

Sound Quality

At this price-point, TWS earbuds normally have consumer-friendly frequencies with exaggerated bass, and the realme Buds Air 2 is in that bracket. Despite their collab with the Chainsmokers, the amplified bass is a bit too much which makes the 10mm drivers rumble even at mid-level volumes. These have the tendency to mask vocals. The realme Buds Air 2 was made for more bass-heavy music but would advise not to push the volume levels above the 50% mark.

When it comes to the realme Buds Air 2 active noise-cancelling support, it claims to have up to 25dB of noise attenuation. It did cut-out most of the noise around the area of where I am however, close distance traffic can still be heard. Should it be paired with seal and music, isolation should be reasonable but they’ve considered that you don’t completely cut out the outside world.

Battery Life

Upon testing the realme Buds Air 2, we were able to clock 4 hours with the ANC enabled on a single charge. It will depend on the volume levels, and we have set our to barely 50%. Though there would be no need to push the realme Buds Air 2 beyond that.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

The realme Buds Air 2 true wireless earphones are fantastic for several reasons – functional, decent, active noise cancellation, – but most of all it comes with a relatively low price of ₱3,990. Aside from this, the design is not lacking and provides ample performance for listening to music and calls. Though it does not sound bad, it has a certain genre that would be best for it.
